BEING A GOOD NEIGHBOUR

at all our production sites

We are part of a community. We make appropriate contributions to the societies where our production sites are located. We also focus on working with the broader community with a view to supporting local businesses.

Ajinomoto Omnichem believes the key here is involvement in high-quality social programmes. As such, we have shared details of the projects we participate in.

Kafunjo project

Located in Ibanda, Uganda, this initiative empowers the local community through socially driven development including an orphanage that shelters 400 children, a primary school, an agricultural school and a community clinic offering access to healthcare. Income is generated from several hectares of farmland – also used to feed the children at the orphanage and local families – while offering a more hopeful future. Our contributions?

  • Biostimulant project: Our team in Kenya donated biostimulants and provided technical support to optimise farmland production and promote more sustainable, efficient practices. The result? Crops have increased by more than 30%.
  • Agricultural development project: Financial support for infrastructure, including a rainwater harvesting tank, drip-irrigation systems and farming tools.
  • Health project: Assistance in diagnosing and treating malaria at the Kafunjo clinic. We also provide vaccines and medical supplies.
  • Nutrition and social support: Our employees directly contribute to the community food bank to offer food security and nutrition to vulnerable populations.

Purified drinking water project

We are involved in a project focused on making purified drinking water available in the vicinity of Vizag in India. This includes Pharma City, the dedicated pharmaceutical industrial zone populated, not just by Ajinomoto Omnichem, but other global bio-pharma manufacturers as well. Ajinomoto Omnichem has been investing – and is continuing to invest – funds to ensure safe, drinkable water is available to staff members, and the broader public, regardless of their association with Pharma City.

Pancake Bake Sale for the ‘Warmest Week’

The ‘Warmest Week’ is an annual charity initiative, run in different towns and cities across Flanders, Belgium. The atmosphere is incredible, with the energy of a fairground, as live music, running races, and celebrities performances all take place. Proceeds go to local charity initiatives. A pharmaceutical chemical company baking and selling pancakes? What else would you expect?

Homaar

We became involved with Homaar: a home or shelter for young people, ages 15 to 23, who have become emotionally stuck. They receive support through creative therapies – music, creative writing, visual work, drama, photography, etc. – but also by cooking, walking or playing sports together. They have the opportunity to work independently or to speak privately with the house supervisors. Our involvement has underlined the importance of mental well-being in our own lives and working conditions

More GREAT PROJECTS THAT DESERVE OUR SUPPORT

  • Food Bank

We have been contributing to the Food Bank by making donations and by offering volunteering support in the past. As we find it important to focus on the less privileged, to help the fight against hunger and food waste, we are committed to offer this support in the future.

  • De Katrol

De Katrol supports families in vulnerable and underprivileged situations.  The idea is to improve their opportunities by assisting them in pursuing education and achieving their diplomas. We do this by providing homework support and helping them feel empowered. We are so happy to have found this programme as we are truly convinced of the importance this profound support in education may  accomplish.
